What makes it - anything - Art, instead of just a pretty picture or an interesting object?
Ten people tell the same good story. Nine times you say, Hey. Good story. But one time it stops you in your tracks in a way that changes something in you, or in the way you look at the world. And maybe you can't even remember the story and maybe you're not quite sure what changed, but something is different. That telling is the one that is art. You think that's odd, maybe, because two or three of the other times, the story was well told but it didn't sink into your heart like this.
Image and object don't become art until they change something in the fact of their creation or existence. They aren't just nice to look at, they now carry some interactive version of soul, getting stronger with every person who feeds that sense of discovery, recognition, curiosity, peace, or understanding back into them. Appreciation isn't enough, the relationship has to move out of the head and into heart and body.
