SANDI NAIL
Watercolor Artist
I have always liked working with my hands, creating things by sewing, knitting, crocheting, and, for the last 20 years, dabbling in watercolor. While working at Mt Hood Medical Center in the Family Birth Dept, some watercolor classes were offered with Beth Verheyden, and I really enjoyed it. It awakened my desire to paint, and I haven't stopped yet. When nurses moved on or retired, Mt. Hood seemed like an appropriate theme to paint and I began giving the works away, having the rest of staff sign the mat to complete the gift. It gave me joy.
I began painting for my own pleasure, painting my grandchildren and the love of nature around me. Since, I have been inspired by other artists to try to create something that moves people. Diane Castillo invited me to put some of my paintings in her space at the Troutdale Art Center, and that reinforcement that my paintings were good enough to share was a shift in perspective for me. I wanted an avenue to raise money to support different missions, and TAC was a great venue to begin that. My inspiration is to paint reflections of some of God’s beauty in this world.
