MARCH 6 - 31
ORDINARY PEOPLE SHOW | Art By ELISA OPENING REception First Friday March 6
March First Friday opens the first and only full showing of the ten Oregon portraits in the "Ordinary People" series by Elisa.
Our curator has been in love with this project since it was only a thought. This combination of personal interaction, on point portraits, and words pulled from talking with the subjects during the sketch and capture prior to painting is powerful.
Thist is your only opportunity to meet and talk to Elisa as she is moving back home way far away in a very few weeks (to an M state you have probably heard more than a bit about recently), and we will miss her here.
Join us First Friday 5-8p. It is going to be a very good evening indeed.

Artist Statement
When downsizing to a minimalist lifestyle, creating contemporary abstract art became central for me. Processing life through painting, gave meaning to life. My pieces are meditations in resilience, beauty and hope.
My Ordinary People series is a tribute to all of the inspiring people I meet fighting to save democracy and standing up for our constitutional rights.
We are in a movement not a moment, and it is ordinary people doing small things consistently that will make the changes we need. Connecting back to my poetry and paint series, I use bright colors to capture the essence of individuals I meet along the way, and words to capture the stories they share with me in a sitting and interview.
My hope is that my series, and the stories of my subjects, will connect the viewer to our world, and remind us that we are a small part of the bigger picture, yet we have the opportunity to greatly affect outcomes for the future, and inspire actions towards stewardship of our home and all living things in it.

YOU are earth | Marlena nielsen artist reception First friday
The words below are the inspiration for Marlena's latest sculptures, "We Are Recycled" and "Wolf Fur & Shark Teeth". They are as wondrous as their maker is inspired and skilled and we are honored to yield the center of our entry gallery to their presence.
We look forward to having you here First Friday for your first look and to talk to Marlena.

You are comprised of 84 minerals, 23 elements, and 8 gallons of water spread across 38 trillion cells. You have been built up from nothing by the spare parts of the Earth you have consumed, according to a set of instructions hidden in a double helix and small enough to be carried by a sperm. You are recycled butterflies, plants, rocks, streams, firewood, wolf fur, and shark teeth, broken down to their smallest parts and rebuilt into our planet's most complex living thing. You are not living on Earth. You are Earth.
