ATRUM ARTE ARTISTS' RECEPTION
First Friday June 5th
5:00 - 8:00p
From the artists:
Astrid Beatriz, Brent, and their daughter are a family of woodworkers and fiber artists. Living in the Concordia neighborhood of Portland, they can often be found at markets in the greater Portland area. They create their art at home where they are surrounded by their dogs, chickens, a garden, and lots of magic and love.
Astrid Beatriz, a Salvadoran immigrant, is a woodworker and a fiber artist. She uses her scroll saw and carving tools to create wood portraits honoring ancestors, pets, her Salvadoran heritage and anything she finds interesting. Her woodwork has appeared in multiple magazine artist spotlights, at various Latin/Hispanic gallery events, galleries and shops around Portland. Her fiber art paintings are made of sheep and other animal fur sourced from Oregon farmers and wool processors, and often represent places she has been or stories from her dreams. She also crochets, weaves both fiber on a loom and reed baskets, she is a mom, has a full time career, and helps out with a few community organizations.
Brent is a luthier (builder of string instruments) with a certificate from Minnesota State Tech and almost three decades of experience building, modding, and repairing instruments along with a variety of related technical and artistic training. He makes electric and acoustic guitars, ukuleles, cigar box instruments and more. Always studying, experimenting, and finding ways to get better while also being very conscious of the environmental impacts are important to him. He has also learned how to do many of the things his wife works on and enjoys occasionally collaborating with her or even doing his own fiber art pieces.
We hope you enjoy our art.
Thank you,
Astrid Beatriz, Brent, and the young Furstner
