I've been a full time artist for the last 10+ years. For the majority of that time I have been a recycling/upcycling artist. It gives me a thrill to reuse something, and it's a challenge to make it a new beautiful item. It really fits in well with who I am.
I have challenged myself to recycle whatever I can in my path. A fool proof way to fill your house, shed, barn, and yard with junk. So for practical reasons I've had to narrow down what I can do and what I can do well.
A desire to make metal sculpture, lead me to cutting metal. A mentor taught me the basics skills and I used a lot of gas torching things. Eventually I had my own art, something bright, unique, light weight, and more practical to haul around to art shows. I have also been making mixed media art pieces along the way, they have proven to be the most challenging because they require a variety of both skill and perseverance.
Like life, art goes in cycles, and I feel like I'm headed in a new direction with my art. I feel I am getting wiser about what I can and cannot do. What I want to do, and what I'm no longer willing to do. I'm getting back to the joy of playing and who knows what that will bring forth.
